MLM Compensation Plans: The Main Types
An MLM compensation plan defines who earns what when a sale or package purchase happens in the network. The main types are binary, matrix, unilevel, generation and hybrid. On a blockchain platform the plan is written as contract logic, so every payout follows the same rules.
The Main Plan Types
| Plan | Structure | How it pays | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binary | Two legs per member | Bonus on the volume of the weaker leg, often with pairing and carry-forward | Needs balance rules and daily caps |
| Matrix (e.g. 3x7) | Fixed width and depth | Level payments within the matrix, spillover fills positions | Positions can stall if growth is slow |
| Unilevel | Unlimited width, fixed payout depth | Percent of sales on each level | Payouts are shallow by design |
| Generation | Rank-based depth | Bonus on downline generations once a rank is reached | Rank rules must be clear |
| Hybrid | Mix of the above | Direct, level, pool and rank bonuses together | Complex to build, test and audit |
Common Bonus Types
- Direct sponsor bonus on a referral's purchase
- Level or unilevel income
- Binary pairing bonus
- Matching bonus on a downline's earnings
- Rank achievement and leadership pools
- Fast-start and retail customer bonuses
How a Plan Becomes Contract Code
- Write the plan as precise rules and examples, including edge cases.
- Model it in a spreadsheet or simulator to check cost per member.
- Implement each rule as a contract function with explicit caps.
- Test with thousands of generated trees to catch rounding and limit bugs.
- Audit, then deploy with admin controls behind a multisig.
Sustainability and Compliance
A plan is sustainable only if income is mainly funded by real product or service sales to customers, not by new recruits' joining fees. Plans where money comes mostly from recruiting are treated as pyramid schemes in many countries. Model your payout cost against sales, set caps, and never advertise guaranteed earnings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which MLM plan is easiest to build on blockchain?
Unilevel is the simplest, binary and matrix need position and balance logic, and hybrid plans take the most testing.
What is spillover in a matrix plan?
When a sponsor's own frontline is full, new members are placed under other members in the structure, filling open positions.
Can I change the plan after launch?
Only if the contract is upgradeable, and upgrades should be limited, announced and controlled by a multisig. Otherwise a new version is deployed.
How do I check a plan is financially sound?
Simulate it with realistic growth and sales assumptions, compare total payout to revenue, and have an advisor review it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to common questions about blockchain, trading infrastructure, and digital asset platforms.
What risk controls should a copy trading platform have?
+
At minimum: allocation limits, per-trade size caps, stop-loss, daily drawdown limits, slippage protection and verified master statistics. We build these controls into the platform, but no control removes market risk and followers can still lose money.
Can blockchain solutions comply with global regulations?
+
Modern blockchain systems can be designed for regulatory alignment through identity layers, permissioned access, audit trails, and privacy-preserving technologies. Our architectures support global compliance readiness including security standards and evolving digital asset regulations.
Which engine is better: Unity or Unreal Engine 5?
+
It depends on your project goals. UE5 is superior for high-fidelity, cinematic realism, while Unity offers excellent cross-platform flexibility for mobile and lightweight web experiences.
Is the bot safe to use within exchange API rate limits?
+
Yes. The rate-limit management system uses in-memory TTL caching with 55-second candle cache, 2-second order cache, 3-second position cache, and 10-minute symbol filter cache. The bot scans ~50 symbols per cycle with parallel API calls and operates well within exchange rate limits across all major venues.
Which arbitrage strategies can BitGoLabs develop?
+
BitGoLabs develops all major crypto arbitrage strategies, each suited to different capital sizes and risk profiles. Cross-exchange arbitrage exploits price gaps between Binance, OKX, Bybit, and Kraken using synchronized buy and sell execution. Triangular arbitrage captures three-currency pricing loops within a single exchange with zero market exposure. DEX arbitrage scans Uniswap V3, PancakeSwap, Curve, and SushiSwap for multi-pool price inefficiencies using on-chain smart contracts. Flash loan arbitrage uses Aave, dYdX, and Uniswap V3 to borrow capital within a single transaction with zero upfront requirement — the transaction reverts automatically if unprofitable. Statistical arbitrage models historical price correlations and bets on mean-reversion between related assets. Funding rate arbitrage captures positive funding fee spreads between perpetual futures and spot markets on Binance, Hyperliquid, and OKX. MEV arbitrage uses Flashbots bundles on Ethereum and BSC to profit from mempool transaction ordering. BitGoLabs can build any single strategy or a combined multi-strategy system.
