How to Create a Crypto Token: Step-by-Step (ERC-20, BEP-20 & Solana)

How to Create a Crypto Token

Creating a token contract takes minutes. Creating one that is safe, fairly distributed and trusted takes planning. This guide walks through the steps for ERC-20, BEP-20 and Solana tokens.

Need a team? See our token development and launchpad services and the token development cost guide.

  1. Define the purpose. Decide what the token does: access, governance, rewards or payments. A clear utility is the basis of everything else.
  2. Choose the chain and standard. ERC-20 on Ethereum or a Layer-2, BEP-20 on BNB Chain, or an SPL token on Solana. Pick by where your users and liquidity are.
  3. Design tokenomics. Set total supply, allocation, vesting and cliffs, and how new tokens enter or leave circulation.
  4. Write the contract. Use audited libraries such as OpenZeppelin for EVM chains. Keep privileged functions (mint, pause, blacklist) to the minimum and document them.
  5. Test thoroughly. Unit tests, fuzz tests and mainnet-fork tests.
  6. Get an independent audit before launching anything that will hold value.
  7. Deploy and verify. Publish the source code on the block explorer so anyone can read it.
  8. Provide liquidity and lock it. Lock liquidity and vesting schedules, and publish the details for holders.
  9. Handle legal and compliance. How a token is classified differs by country, so take legal advice before any public sale.

Solana Tokens

On Solana, tokens use the SPL Token program. Token-2022 adds optional extensions such as transfer fees and metadata. Tooling differs from EVM chains (Rust, Anchor, the Solana CLI), so plan for different libraries and wallets.

Red Flags to Avoid

  • Unlimited minting by the owner with no timelock
  • Hidden blacklist or transfer restrictions
  • Unlocked liquidity that can be withdrawn at any time
  • Unverified source code

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to create a token?

Simple tokens are inexpensive to deploy, but a safe launch needs tokenomics, testing, an audit and legal review. See the cost guide for ranges.

Which blockchain should I use?

Choose where your users and liquidity are. Ethereum Layer-2s, BNB Chain and Solana each have different fees and tooling.

Do I need an audit?

For any token that holds or raises real value, yes. It protects holders and is expected by exchanges.

This guide is not legal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions about blockchain, trading infrastructure, and digital asset platforms.

Do you provide post-launch maintenance and upgrades?

+

Yes. We deliver continuous monitoring, smart contract upgrades, analytics improvements, and infrastructure scaling to ensure sustainable long-term platform performance.

Is token fundraising legally compliant?

+

Compliance depends on jurisdiction and token classification. We design distribution models and governance structures aligned with evolving global regulatory expectations and best practices.

How does GRID bot strategy differ from DCA?

+

DCA bots average positions through multiple levels as price pullsback within validated ATR ranges, ideal for trending markets where you accumulate during dips and ride the trend higher. GRID bots distribute capital evenly across 5–20 price levels with profit-taking orders at each tier, excelling in range-bound or sideways markets where price oscillates repeatedly through grids. DCA requires directional bias; GRID is direction-neutral. Choose DCA for strong trends (>2% daily moves) and GRID for choppy, oscillating markets (<2% daily moves).

Should smart contracts be re-audited after upgrades?

+

Absolutely. Any logic change can introduce new vulnerabilities, making re-auditing essential for maintaining protocol safety and user trust.

Do you provide post-launch live-ops support?

+

Absolutely. BitgoLabs delivers continuous updates, analytics monitoring, content expansion, and economy optimization for long-term success.
